Teaching Day, Sept. 28, 2012

I've been teaching for twenty one years  through Santa Barbara City College Continuing Education. Today, Saturday, I showed up to teach and the classroom at the Schott Center was locked up tight  with no key to be found. So, I set up the tables and Easels and taught my Beginning Oil Painting out in the breezeway.  Some times being an artist requires quick thinking and  a seat-of-the-pants kind of reaction.

Flower Growing Capital of the World Sept. 26, 2012

Carpinteria is known as the flower growing capital of the world. The Carpinteria Bluffs is one of the locations the Larkspur and Delphinium are in abundance, especially in the Spring. The Van Wingerden family, who migrated to Carpinteria from Holland in the 1960's, are responsible for this incredible field of flowers, appear to be ready for market.

Asa's Place: Sunrise, Mammoth Mountain Sept, 17, 2012

One never knows the fate of their creation of art once it is born, and given a life of it's own. This little painting I created about six years ago in Mammoth Mountain, California. I actually created while straddling a bleached-boned carcass of a deer in the knee high chaparral.  I framed in one of my own hand made frames it now graces the interior of Asa Allen's Cabin in the woods. It is now framed by fully loaded antique 1894 Winchester Rifles. It truly has found a home.

From Here Sept. 16, 2012

I was contacted by American Jazz Guitarist , Ralph Pritikan, last week, and asked to create an album cover for the release of his first CD. It is a compilation of ideas, based on the American Culture found in Greenwich Village area of New York City. Ralph lives in Brazil, however the music he passionately writes, plays, and records he  points to New York City and tells his fans the music derives, "From Here"

Painting Day, Sept. 12, 2012 An Auspiciois Beginning

Yesterday I began my 21st year of teaching art through the SBCC Continuing Education Program. My class, "Light and Shadow in Art" met on location at the Andrea Clark Bird Refuge in Santa Barbara, where I lectured and demonstrated some oil painting techniques.  We were blessed by two new students who patiently and attentively listened to my opening lecture. I look at it as an auspicious beginning to a new term.

Bull Moon Sept. 10, 2012

I am participating in an art show this weekend, opening Friday, Sept. 14, 2012 at the Santa Barbara Tennis Club. I am amongst 50 artists who have been asked to produce paintings with theme and the content, "Bull".

I decided to created a nocturne, more based upon the surreal influence of 19th Century French Post Impressionist painter Henri Roussseau.
