One of the nicest views, vista's where we live is the Santa Barbara Cemetery. I taught class there on Wednesday, and encouraged the students to listen; not to me, but the quietude. It was fun; encouraging them to try 'automatic painting', and learn about those buried beneath their feet.
Jess, an employee of the cemetery for 53 years, drove up in his truck and gave me two beautiful hard bound books about the history of the cemetery. Titled, "The Last Best Place" it explains the evolution of the cemetery, the Mausoleums, and the who's who that is buied there, such as Hollywood actor, Ronald Coleman. After skimming the book, and demonstrating in oils I looked down to see the grave site of Grace Libby Vollmer, a nationally acclaimed artist who lived in Santa Barbara.
