Papa Duke

Ellis Eringer, the late father of Robert Eringer, lived in Monaco. One of his gifts was to paint portraits, from memory, of Padre Pio. His paintings of Padre Pio were sought by collectors world wide, because they had healing powers.

Up on "The Rock" in Monaco is the Cathedral of Monaco. A special alcove is dedicated to Padre Pio, and Ellis' Painting is the center piece. One day while I was in Monaco I entered Ellis' studio where he was busy painting one of his portraits. He agreed to allow me to capture his portrait while at work on his painting.

Lightning Strike, Monaco

Arriving in Monaco to M-Base; it was Mid-Winter, and we were off on another one of our journey's to investigate the line separating Creativity and Madness.

A large thunder storm moved into the Principality so I grabbed my easel and set up to paint. Right on Que the lightning flashed, and I captured it in paint.

Starry Night Over the Tete'

Robert Eringer moved into the Sangria La Apartments, on the top floor which had commanding views of Monaco Harbor to the East, and a back balcony vista of the Tete' De Chien. (Head of the Dog). This was "M" Base.

I was never at a loss as for subject matter to paint...

Monaco Ritz

I met ROBERT ERINGER over nine years ago at a Gallery in SANTA BARBARA.

After seeing my plein air Nocturnes, he made the opportunity available to me, to paint the purist of night sky's, in ICELAND! That journey evolved into a six year Odyssey; in search of Creativity and Madness.

Many of our journeys unfolded in a Surreal fashion. One of the Surreal locations we'd visit was Monaco. (It was three years before I knew what Eringer was doing there). Well, he would have his secret meetings, and I would go off to paint.

In the six years of our SURREAL BOUNCE ODYSSEY I produced 120 paintings during our jaunts. This particular painting, which I titled "Monaco Ritz", was painted under the full moon, on my first nights' visit to Monaco; playground of the rich and famous I painted it from my hotel balcony, overlooking the Principality.

I particularly like the painterly quality of this piece. The Glitz inspired by the Ritz. This painting exhibited at the ELEANOR ETTINGER GALLERY in SOHO, NEW YORK during my first solo NY exhibition, in 2002.
